How often would a ship pass yours on the seas? Could you see other ships passing you all the time, or would it just happen every few days or so? And how often could you find flotsam floating around in the sea? And would ships of nations who were at war, engage eachother at sight or did they occasionally pass without fighting? But the main question is: How busy were the seas of the 17th/18th century?
Not intending to derail, but I would be curious if anyone could add the 19th and early 20th centuries to their answer as well as I would be curious what the Industrial Revolution added to these "day in the life" ship sightings at sea?
