The last major round of frequent and deliberate city-razing ended in 1945. The last major city to have been partially razed was Grozny. It was massively damaged by artillery and air-strikes in the First Chechen War (1994–1996) and the Second Chechen War (1999–2000), at the end of which Russian forces reportedly systematically dynamited large parts of the city that were still standing.
