Generally speaking, no. It wouldn't be something that you'd be worried about. If you're living in southeastern Massachusetts in 1600, you'd be part of the Wampanoag Confederacy or the allied Nauset. When the English colonists' arrived in 1620, the biggest military concern the Wampanoag had was much closer to home. Part of the reason the Wampanoag allowed the English to remain in Plymouth was to create a military alliance with them against the Narragansetts in what's now Rhode Island. You'd have the Mahican Confederacy along the Hudson River as a powerful buffer between you and the Haudenosaunee (the Iroquois). During the Pequot War in 1636-8, the Pequot sachem Sassacus regarded the Mohawk as an ally and sought refuge among them (though he was ultimately betrayed). It wouldn't be until the mid-1600s, after the Haudenosaunee had defeated the Wendat (Huron Confederacy), that the Native people of southern New England began to harbor significant concerns about Iroquoian military aggression.
