We hear about the ones who formed businesses and bought land and basically become the founders of the country but I'd imagine a great deal wouldn't want anything to do with Australia after their forced emigration and years of forced Labour and imprisonment. I think I wouldn't.

Did this not happen often because of the cost of passage, or were convicts actually disallowed from returning despite having served their sentences? Or did it actually just happen all the time and I just never heard about it?
