I'm not sure if this fits your definition of "craftsmanship" or not, but scientists have only recently determined how the ancient Egyptians were able to move such large blocks of stone such great distances in the desert. Not sure if they're definitively determined how they lifted them though.
Of course, we know a different way to move huge blocks of stone, but we didn't know until very recently how they had managed to do it in using pre-industrial technology.
