I'm sorry, but I've had to remove this since it deals with a modern subject (Afghanistan). However, one thing to keep in mind when studying these two countries is the fact that after Germany was defeated, that was it. There was no more hostilities. When it came to Afghanistan, it never reached that point and there was a very present insurgency which had to be defeated (and which it never was).
