I've been doing quite a bit of reading about Watergate recently, but I've been unable to find a good, recent history of Watergate. I want something recent enough to have incorporated all (or at least much) of recent information, such as the identity of Deep Throat, subsequent releases of tapes, etc. I also want something that is more of a history: focused on studying and assembling a sense of what we know, rather than on revealing shocking new information. I don't have a graduate degree, but I did take some graduate classes, so I'm not afraid of things on the more scholarly than popular end of the spectrum. Ideally, however, it would be something that isn't drudge work even for dedicated buffs.
The most comprehensive and balanced history of Watergate is Watergate: The Corruption of American Politics and the Fall of Richard Nixon by Fred Emery. It was written to accompany the 1994 Watergate Documentary series broadcast on the BBC and the Discovery Channel.
Unfortunately 1994 is too early to include the Deep Throat revelation and other info that has come out since, but no Watergate history has come out recently that matches Emery's book. For recent updates you would probably have to find a recent Nixon biography, or Bob Woodward's The Secret Man: The Story of Watergate's Deep Throat.
