I was watching an old movie from the 1950s that is set in the 1920s - 1930s and in one scene the main protagonist takes off her shoes and underneath she's wearing a pair of heels. Kind of like shoeception or when you wear sunglasses over your glasses. I was blown away by how smart that was, but I've never seen or heard of anything like that before. Anyone know anything about this? I'm not really sure if this is the right subreddit, sorry if it's not!
The film is Swedish and probably not that well known.
Did the overshoes look something like the ones a third of the way down the page here? As you can see from the text beneath the illustration, this was called a "carriage boot".
It's essentially a fancy galosh, with a hollow heel so it could be worn over a heeled shoe. Originally, it would have been worn in the carriage on the way to an evening event (hence the name).
