In the 1980s and 90s, what predictions were made about now, and how much came true?

by [deleted]

On the internet I read a ton of articles about what will be more common 20, 30 years from now e.g. meat grown in petri dishes, etc. I wonder, what were popular predictions and assumptions made not too long ago in the 80s/90s about how life would be now in the 2010s?

Judging their accuracy or lack thereof may help in guiding our expectations for our next 20/30 years when reading articles about "our future."

Thanks!

OP this may not be the most appropriate subreddit for this question. This sub has a "20 year rule" against discussing current events, so answers about the 80s and 90s will be confined to pre1995 i.e. only 75% of the period requested. Further, answers will not be able to address "how much came true", since that would be discussing now. If you're ok with these restrictions here, fine, but you might consider x-posting to another sub, perhaps /r/history, or /r/AskSocialScience
