This (link) ashtray has been in my mother's family for as long as she can remember (she's born early 60s). Does anyone know what origin it might have? It's got the words "Camp de Beverloo" signed into its side. (link) Could it have been made by a soldier from the camp or was it made by an external company for the camp?
Looks like the Camp hosted the pistol and rifle competitions in the 1920 Olympics. The artwork, of two hunting dogs, is very typical for , say, an engraved scene on a shotgun. So, likely an Olympic souvenir.
On the other hand, there were many ashtrays and decorative objects made during WWI from the giant piles of shell and cartridge brass. This was a fairly simple sand casting, ( once the carved pattern was made) so it's possible some workshop already doing a little casting knocked out some souvenirs as well.
