Have mega threads at least for the first week or two for anticipated pop culture events. For example: around the release of "the imitation game" create a mega thread for "Turing and the Imitation Game" and delete and redirect questions asking variations of that question to that thread where it's going to be highly likely the question was already answered thus creating a place where flaired users can be confident that if they devote time to a high quality long answer people will 1. see it and 2. the same question will not be seen again and again and again (which in various meta posts seems to be a major annoyance for some/many members of the community).
So what are your thoughts? Feel free to critique the idea, suggest operational changes (not really wedded to the particulars but i thought i'd offer an initial attempt) and the like.
EDIT: and do you think it should be broader than pop culture/examples of those type of questions.
We have done this in the past actually (although not too recently that I recall off hand). The main impediment is that we feel that simply saying "here is your Megathread, just post here" is a bit unfair, and generally don't like creating them unless we have already spoken with a few flairs who are willing to be on point and essentially treat it like an impromptu AMA, which, frankly, is easier said than done!
So anyways, point is, it isn't a bad idea, one we may drag out again in the future, but it isn't something we like doing with zero prep.
Or, another idea - just don't click on or answer the questions that you personally find uninteresting. This thread is an open forum for people to ask questions related to history issues they are interested in, "Ask Historians". So if there's something you find annoying, just ignore it and let others enjoy the resource to their best capacity.
Seems like a pretty good idea to me. Maybe it could be even more general and just be a weekly thread of "questions about movies/tv."
To be perfectly honest, I'd prefer seeing people ask questions to clarify issues that are often overlooked or distorted in films and tv shows for the sake of entertainment. I think it's a bad idea to discourage people from seeking the truth.
How about separate question posts but a stickied post with a link to each of those questions. Considerable extra work for mods but possibly better organized. Basically rather than a mega thread, a mini faq.
