The USA has recently dry-docked its first littoral combat ship. It has suffered numerous maintenance setbacks in the time since it was first deployed. I was wondering if these difficulties were a common occurance for "state of the art" ships in their day (like the first steelclad ship).
One example that comes to mind is the Fourth Fleet Incident of 1935. A number of the IJN's newest ships suffered a degree of damage due to their novel and overloaded designs.
