So, about a year ago I saw some soviet and Nazi things for sale on a trip in Poland. Most seemed fake but this one caught my eye because of the little packet in came with. Anyone know what it's for/means and whether it's legit or not?

The medal commemorates the 60th anniversary of Soviet armed forces, as indicated by the dates 1918 and 1978.
That site says that over 10 million of this medal were minted. Since you have the paperwork with it, yours is probably authentic. It is probably also not worth very much. A quick ebay search shows items like this (with documentation) in the 10-15 dollar range.
