What good books for a layman can I read about the history of Mexico?

by Mioxmaster

I love history and history books, but most out there recomended are about Europe or U.S. history. What good books are out there about Mexico's history? I would specially like to know about Mexico pre colonial.

Michael Coe and Rex Koontz's Mexico: From the Olmec to the Aztec is a great read, and it's not pricey. Coe, more than most other scholars, puts out very readable books for a public audience. Mexico is his most comprensive, but he does have two other good books on the Maya: The Maya, and Breaking the Maya Code.

I recommend anything in our book list.
