Hey historians, I asked this question over in /r/HistoryPorn, but after looking at some of the other comments I figured you guys could give me a better answer to my question.

So is the reason why we do not see the Confederate Flag in the linked to picture is because the flag as we know it was little-known until the KKK and other white supremacist groups brought it to attention in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's?
