i'm in favor of any AMAs but it does seem like that big chunk of those questions has died away. i posted a not very similar meta post 5 days or go but i got into a discussion with a mod which seems to be related.

Which feeds into the points you bring up... it was useful to cut down on the proliferation of questions on the topic, but yes, on the other hand a lot of them remained unanswered, or unsatisfactorily so, even with a few flairs clued in to expect it. Doing threads like this on a regular basis for media events such as movie releases or "must see TV" episodes I don't think is really feasible, and frankly, I don't recall off hand any film/tv event that lead to a true flood of questions - Turing and GoT are both examples of popular themes, but really, they weren't all coming in at once. Coordinating a proper AMA to tie into notable film releases could be pretty cool actually, but again, that takes some preplanning and a willing flair or to.

Crimea, as I recall, set off a ton of questions, and if anything, I think that the influx of Confederacy/Rebel Flag questions we have seen in the past few days is one of the most focused floods I've seen in awhile (Megathread a few days ago might not have been a bad idea, but we may have missed the point for it to happen by now).

Here's my take on it. We (19th century or Civil War flairs) get this more than any other question: some variation on "what was the Civil War about/was it about slavery/why did the South secede." It has been done to death. It has been answered hundreds of times by dozens of different users, most recently in an exhaustive post by our own /u/Georgy_K_Zhukov. It has its own page in the FAQ with three entries; the search function will reveal many times that.

I hope none of you will take offense at this, but I can only answer the same question so many times before I lose any interest in doing so again. At this point, I would prefer to talk about literally any other aspect of my flair area than the cause of disunion, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Flaired users are limited to discussing only those things that you ask about, and many of us never get to talk about the things we are truly passionate about. So, if you love us and want us to be happy, please go out on a limb and ask us about things that have been less extensively covered. You'll be surprised what interesting questions you can come up with after five minutes on wikipedia!
