I'm not really very familiar at all with what the Orthodox church was like at that point. Was that church seen to have the same challenges as the Catholic church? Were there calls for reform?
The Lutherans wrote a letter to the Orthodox explaining their position with the assumption that the Orthodox would have stayed true to the Faith and avoided Roman corruptions.
The Orthodox found the Lutheran view to be totally foreign and wrote back to 'correct' them. The result was the two churches talking past each other.
The Orthodox and Anglicans had much more fruitful conversations and there was even talk of communion together. Some of the Reformed element in Anglicanism kept them a bit wary though. Any serious talk of intercommunion has ended since Anglicans started ordaining women though.
