Fireworks are synonymous with celebration, not with just the Fourth of July. The Fourth of July is a celebration, so the American's celebrate it with fireworks.

Same way the opening of prestigious events like the Olympics is celebrated with fireworks.

My knowledge of American Colonial history isn't vast but I'm pretty sure fireworks aren't there only for the Fourth of July. IIRC the Chinese came up with them first.
