I've been listening to the Everly Brothers recently, and they often speak of crying, and the fact that they are so popular indicates that they weren't likely mocked for it too often.
However, now, the media criticizes men for crying, calling them little girls or children.
When did this shift occur for men?
Edit: In America, I know many countries still see it as acceptable for men to cry.
I'm not an American - but I suspect that it is ok there too for a man to cry. Approval or otherwise of a man crying would largely depend on the context too - would people understand if I cry because my family had just been wiped out by a psychopathic serial killer? I think they would. Would they understand if I cried because there was no milk left in the fridge for my Cornflakes? I doubt it. Context is everything methinks.
