Hey guys and gals,

I am looking to get some shadow boxes put together for my family. I have my grandfather's discharge paperwork and am trying to figure out what some of his awards were. Here is what I know. I already filled out the ones that I figured out.

He was an officer. I am pretty sure he had wings, but I don't see anything that would authorize him to wear them, or did they even have anything that would authorize him to wear them besides the fact that he flew? So, according to his paperwork, he began active duty July 1947, and exited January 1961. That puts him at about 13 years 6 months, however, he had 5 years 11 months of "other service" listed on the discharge paperwork. I have no clue what the other service is, but I could have sworn that my dad (passed away) told me that he flew fighters in WWII. From what my Aunt said, he joined the Marines when he was underage, and supposedly his father got him released. These dates just don't make sense because he was born in 1915, but if he joined to go to WW2, he would have been old enough to go long before America joined the war. Unfortunately, he died shortly after getting out of the Air Force and my grandmother died of Alzheimer's 6 years ago, so I really have no one who might have known him to be able to ask for clarification.
