Yes. Units that had been seen as distinguishing themselves particularly well were often awarded the honorific Guards title. The 13th Guards Rifle Division is a good example, though I'm not sure if their uniforms were much different from regular units. The Russian Marines which acquitted themselves quite well on the Eastern Front, though technically a naval unit (you did say army) might be more towards what you're looking for though. Their uniforms were typically dark blue and they often wore bandoliers (sometimes two at once) of rifle rounds across the chest. They were also armed with a larger proportion of SVT semi-automatic rifles fairly rare in other units (you might be able to work their distinctive magazines and front ends in your paint jobs). Its difficult to think of something that neatly fits your criteria but Guards and marine units should be a good starting point.
