The short answer is that it did. American colonists participated in the war on both sides, and even fought a battle in Maryland.
Interesting tidbit: if you're in Boston, you can see a statue of the governor of Massachusetts who was executed as a regicide (Harry Vane) inside the entrance to the central library building.
