Where did the idea of America being a Christian nation cone from?

by Troutkid

I get that the majority of Americans might be Christian, but is there anything substantially better that "Fox news told me so?"

The founders were judeo-Christian and the constitution specifically mentions that our rights are endowed by our creator... It's no secret that the country was founded by Christians with Christian beliefs. Most of our law is based off of English common law that was directly influenced by first the Catholic Church and then the Protestant Reformation as well as the Church of England. If you want me to cite sources I'll gladly do it when I wake up in the morning.
