My grandparents recently passed away and after cleaning out there house I found my great-grandfather's MBE with some paper work. I tried looking it up but couldn't find out what it would have been awarded for. I attached a picture with the paperwork so hopefully that helps.
My great-grandfather was English and I am pretty sure he served in the Navy in WW2 for a little background. Thank you in advance.
The announcements are published in the London Gazette. It appears to be a civil award based on the ribbon so the entry should have something about why it was awarded (services to X or Y). You can review the announcements by year -although I didn't see him right away in either the New Year or King's Birthday lists for 1947, start there and work back!
Afraid I can't find it from a quick search; do you have his middle name, and possibly his rank/ship/etc.?
