Hitler felt that a vegetarian diet was healthier for him. We should note he was a lacto-ovo vegetarian, as his favorite dessert was cream cake. So basically, he just refrained from eating dead animals, &c, not from any concern with cruelty to farm animals.

This did not cause any surge in vegetarianism amongst Nazi elites or common Germans, nor any reduction in meat rations for the armed services, until meat shortages set in.
