I just learned the fact that Cleopatra lived closer to the invention of the iPhone than she did the construction of the pyramids. I also know that the pyramids were only heavily excavated in the late 19th century. Did Egyptians/Romans in Cleopatra's time know/care about the pyramids?
The pyramids were quite well known and their purpose fully understood in antiquity. Herodotus visited them and speaks about them. Strabo and Pliny both mention them, after Cleopatra's own lifetime. They featured in poetry and there were other discussions of them that are lost
