So I quite often read on this forum that this new discovery and that new work of history and whatnot changes the historians' understanding of the area, or how most of the works over a few decades old are outdated. Is there an area where this notably isn't true, for various reasons? For example because of the high quality of the existing work by current standards.
Basically, what I'm asking is, is there an area where a time-travelling modern historian couldn't really surprise his colleagues from the past with new developments?
There are plenty of areas within Mexico where we have a poor understand of the region because of the lack of work rather than too much work. My area in Jalisco ,Mexico, for example, could benefit greatly from further archaeological work as well as neighboring areas of Nayarit, Colima, and Zacatecas. Because interested in the region has been sparse there is a definite lack of major archaeological excavations. When they do occur they usually provide tremendous insight about a new aspect of the cultures in question.
