First of all, there is very little archaeological or historical evidence outside of Jewish scripture to attest to Moses' existence. Having said that, it is worth noting that 'Moses' is actually an Egyptian name. If he was conceived as a Jewish hero by Israelite fantasists, it would hardly be appropriate to give him a name that belonged to their former slave masters. Unfortunately, the hard evidence on this one is pretty thin.
