EDIT:Winston Spencer Churchill, I accidentally left his first and middle name from the question
Historian David Day claims in his book Menzies and Churchill at war that Robert Menzies returned to Australia from England in April 1941 after positioning himself to take Churchill’s job, it has taken root in popular Australian history with even the ABC making it the subject of a documentary. So I ask the historians on this subreddit if Menzies did position himself for the role as stated by Mr Day or if this is a falsehood?

This doesn't make sense. Menzies couldn't become prime minister of Britain without being a member of the British parliament which is a bit of a stretch because he lived in Australia.
They did meet before and during the war, but while Churchill rated several mentions in Menzies diary, I don't recall Churchill mentioning him at all.
Menzies did however replace Churchill in one role after Churchill's death - he was granted the title of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports (an entirely honorary position).
