Always been interested in the Titanic and I can't seem to find any info on the racial breakdown of the passengers.
Were there any actual, paying passengers that were of African descent?
I know of at least one man, a valet for a first class passenger. They both went down with the ship.
And I know of at least one other non-white passenger, a Japanese fellow who survived.
Were there any other black people onboard, regardless of their survival of the sinking?
Please and thank you!
There was Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche, a Haitian-born engineer traveling in second-class with his French-born wife and family.
I don't know the answer, but the British Archives has a lot about Titanic on their web site. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/titanic/
