I gather from some other posts in this thread that Ancient Egypt was sitting over some of Africa's prime real estate, and presumably many outside powers wanted a slice of that action. So, how did the Egyptians keep their territory intact.

Did they have a professional army? Who joined it? What was its equipment. Was there a division between land and sea warfare? Was there a general staff?
