Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone would be able to identify the uniform that my great grandfather is wearing on this picture. I am asking on behalf of my grandad who wanted to find out and has provided the following information:

  • His name is Oliver Fellows (Originating from the surname Follows).
  • He was born in 1900 and lived in Birmingham.
  • He believes the picture would have been around 1918-19?
  • He joined the British Army at 16 years old, in 1916.
  • He was mostly stationed in and around India at the time.
  • He thinks it may be a Hussar or Dragoon uniform or some sort of cavalry regiment?

I hope you can help and I would love to let him know, so thanks in advance!

There's no insignia or colour on the uniform, no rank, or anything else that could identify a particular unit. Yes, Hussars and Dragoons would wear a uniform like this, as would other cavalry units (as both Hussars and Dragoons are cavalry), but without a better picture, or some insignia, it would be near impossible to tell you anything.

This is definitely a hussar uniform. Search up on all active hussar regiments around his time (that was stationed in India).
