I drive a car with no a/c and it is often too dangerous for me to drive during the summer. I am curious if there were more heat related deaths before air conditionjng?
A short, but, I think, valid answer. By aclimatisation. People can become acustomed to extreme temperatures over a period of time. Many, many people today live in climates with extreme heat and without air conditioning. Almost anybody can get used to extreme heat in a relatively short period of time.
