Could you maybe elaborate a bit? Are you asking if people ever held roses or daggers in their teeth?

My understanding is that sailors would hold a weapon in their teeth as they were boarding to leaving their hands free to climb. Most of the depictions i have seen of a suitor with a rose between their was because they were climbing a balcony. Perhaps it is simply they both needed their hands free?
