Why didn't America adopt the British judicial tradition of powered wigs and robes, as other former British colonies have done?

Side note: Why didn't America adopt the tradition of bantering between parties like in the British parliament?

Didn't you though? American judges are still required to wear robes and things, right? In many places there are no dress codes for judges, so you at least have that in common with the British legal system.
