I know it is very popular, even amongst non-believers, to claim that Jesus was "the most sublime ethical teacher of all time." Jefferson did this. Voltaire did this. Etc. But I can't help, for myself at least, to compare Jesus to Aristotle. When I do I can't help but conclude that Jesus was actually a light-weight. Was Jesus a truly great and original ethical teacher? Or are people just offering sops to Christians?
Likely not. Not because of anything to do with his ability as a teacher, of which we know fairly little. Being from a rural area in the Galilee, he probably would not have spoken Greek or Latin, and having not had a Greek education in logic, rhetoric, etc.
