I remember being told of a story where one huge man weilding a huge axe stood on a very thin bridge chopping down his enemies one by one. Can anyone help me out with it?

It was probably medieval history. The story goes that a very small bridge separated the two enemy forces and so this brutish man simply stood at the end of the bridge and chopped each soldier down one by one because only one could cross the bridge at any time.

You are thinking of the battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 (England), where supposedly a Viking warrior was able to hold off many Saxons before a smart Saxon warrior was able to float a small boat under the bridge and stab him in the groin with his spear.
