I recently learned that the number 0 wasn't a thing in Europe until Fibonacci translated an Arabic book about the Hindus use of the number 0 in the 1200s. This was during the crusades. So I was wondering what the catholic church thought about the number 0 initially since they didn't really agree with evolution initially either?
There was no opposition from the Church on the basis of religion; opposition to the introduction of Hindu numerals came from merchant guilds and professional abacus users, the former because the differences between Eastern and Western Arabic numerals were causing confusion, and the latter because they made arithmetic easy enough that their skills were no longer necessary.
