Robert Shea and Robert Wilson's "Illuminatus" trilogy of novels heavily influenced current ideas of the 'Illuminti'. The underlying ideas about the 'Illuminati', and much of current conspiracy theories on the whole, developed from "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion", a 19th c book which claimed to be a much older 'users manual', for teaching Jews how to take over the world and eat children and such. It pretty much introduced the 'Freemasons' trope, 'informed' Hitler and Henry Ford, was proved an anti-semetic fraud ages ago, but still gets cited by white supremicists, Jihadists, etc, and is kinda the bedrock from which all later conspiracy theories (of all sociopolitical stripes) grew. (Not saying all Conspiracy Theories are anti-semetic, just that "Protocols" had influential ideas)
