Everytime we watch movies or read books about the medieval age the world is portratited in a way that shows a lot of murders and crimes. It feels like the chances of being murdered during those times was a lot higher than today. It almost feels like you could be murdered for anything.
So, was the risk of being murder higher during the medieval age?
When and where? The 'Medieval Age' spans a pretty huge time, and, in Western Europe, covers about 800 years or so.
In 13th century Iceland, for example, there was an ongoing feud involving the Sturlunga clan that saw dozens of people killed and, ultimately, Iceland brought under Norwegian control, though we only know of the deaths because of Sturlunga saga. Involvement in politics at the time was not a safe occupation.
