Was the general attitude toward segregation in the 1950s similar toward same-sex marriage today?

This submission has been removed because it involves current events. To keep from discussion of politics, we have a 20-year rule here. You may want to try /r/ask_politics or another current-events focused sub.

To be clear, it's fine to ask about the 50s, but asking for comparisons to attitudes today is in violation of the rule, as that would require analysis & discussion of current affairs.
