Question about the pay in the Tsar's army.

by Sotisthedoggy

I visited my grandparents recently and my grandad told me that hes grandfather served in the Russian army (late 1800s, maybe early 1900) and he saved the money he did in 2 years serving and bought an cow with the money. How much was he paid monthly and how much did a cow cost back then? I am Finnish and so was he if that helps somehow.

Horse carts to -100 rubles

Dray horse, work - 70 rubles,

The old nag upon the sausage - 20 rubles,

A good horse, on which the people seem not ashamed - from 150 rubles

In peacetime, soldier Russian Imperial Army received 50 kopeks (0,5 rubles) per month. Since the beginning of the war soldiers received "enhanced salary" of 75 kopeks(0,75 rubles).

Soldier, to curry favor with "petty officers" received much more. The most highly paid of the soldiers was Sergeant-Major, who in time of war received 9 rubles per month.

For example, the Soldier, fulfilling duties regimental bugler, received in wartime 6 rubles per month (in the Guard - 6 rubles 75 kopecks), and Soldiers, with the qualification "gunsmith 1st category" already received 30 rubles a month. This is equal to the average urban salary, but these artists are able to maintain and repair the sophisticated arms, the army was still less than the sergeants.

A cheap salaries of soldiers should be compensated fully state-owned collateral state and army soldiers fed, clothed from head to foot and provided with everything necessary.

An army officer salaries were as follows. The lieutenant received a salary of 80 rubles plus the same apartment and more guards 10 rubles in the amount of 90 rubles . The captain received a salary from 93 to 123 rubles, capital - from 135 to 145 rubles, and a lieutenant colonel from 185 to 200 rubles a month.

Colonel of the tsarist army received from the Emperor a salary of 320 rubles a month, the general as commander of the division had a salary of 500 rubles, and a general in the office of the corps commander - 725 rubles per month.
