My understanding is that when the Viceroyalty of New Spain was founded, Spanish forces were a small core of pike and shot style soldiers from Spain, and huge hosts of native allies who seized the opportunity to overthrow hated Tenochtitlan. What became of these allies after the fall of Tenochtitlan, and how did Spanish technology affect the native way of war?
