I've been reading on the French Republic and subsequent French Empire and I found the subject of Poland very interesting. Napoleon destroyed his entire empire trying to create and defend the Duchy of Warsaw. How is this viewed in Poland, is he a celebrated hero, despised as a conqueror, is it bittersweet? I wonder what the perspective is.
He's mentioned by name within the Polish national anthem as giving them an example and motivation as to how to win battles, referring to those events.
"Dał nam przykład Bonaparte, Jak zwyciężać mamy."
He is presented in very positive light, haven't heard about Pole that said negative things about him.
In school there are also topics about his polish generals and whole polish army/legion fighting alongside him. Poles seen him as one who will restore PLC borders.
