Did they still respect the old "legendary" viking kings?
Arguably, yes, since literally every bit of saga evidence we have (and all of the written mythology) is post-Christianization. There was, of course, euhemerisation of the gods into Asian or Middle Eastern heroes who had travelled west, and a sort of 'they didn't know better' attitude when it came to overtly pagan religious attitudes of saga characters, but generally they were treated just as well as contemporary figures.
