Inside The Great Ottoman Empire's page on Wikia I found a section named "The New World" which presents some information I never had clue about. However, since Wikia cand be edited by anyone, I cannot safely verify the sources or the accuracy of the information presented in that section.
Also, there was one paragraph which draw my attention:
After the Spanish Inquisition, many Jews felt that they needed their own homeland to protect themselves from anti-semitism. Suleiman's advisor, Ibrahim Pasha, was in particular an adherent of this idea. With the sparsely populated North America for the taking, the Ottomans funded a Jewish colony in the New World, under Ottoman Control but with autonomy. In 1570, New Jerusalem (OTL Charleston) was established. Although the Jews came into conflict with the local Cherokee, over the next century, New Israel had developed into a flourishing colony.
After reading the New Wolrd section, can someone state that the information presented there is accurate? I'm a Romanian, and a part of Romania was under Ottoman occupation for a good period of time, so the Ottoman Empire is a big subject in our history books, but I never quite knew that they sort of wanted the Americas too. I know that they took islam to Asia and left some in the Balkans too - here I'm talking about the outer-typical-muslim-areas - and these colonization-related subjects were very interesting since Islam altered the destiny of the countries it was introduced in, but I was curious if it was ever brought to the Americas. And then I stumbled upon this page:
http://althistory.wikia.com/wiki/The_Great_Ottoman_Empire#The_New_World
Now I can only assume how an Islamic Central America would have looked like.
While entertaining, this is simply fabrication. The clue is in the URL... http://althistory.wikia.com :)
This is all fiction. Interesting fiction, but still fiction nonetheless.
Feel free to read through some past threads addressing why the Ottomans didn't conquer {The New World, South East Asia, etc. etc. etc.}.
And before somebody else pulls up that Wikipedia page that lists "Ottoman Invasions and Landings" or some such, that generously lists "British Isles, Virginia, Newfoundland, etc." please keep in mind that page is very poorly sourced if at all. So it should not be considered credible. Further, it is fact that small pirate fleets nominally loyal to the Ottoman empire did conduct pirate raids as far as Ireland, Iceland, etc., these are not nearly the same as "Ottoman colonization."
The website is called alt(ernative)history. It's fiction
I was on the phone when I read it and never saw the "althistory" part from the URL.
Now I'm so embarrassed.
