How is Strauss–Howe generational theory received by the historical community?

Some have welcomed it as at least food for thought, others have dismissed it as overgeneralised and failing to address the wide variation in the experience of minorities, women and different socio-economic groups. Most probably haven't given it much thought, to be honest, they've seen too many of these grand concepts come and go and they're too busy trying to come up with one of their own.
