(WWI) Were there any attempts at tunneling under the opposing trenches?

One tactics I've seen for sieging castles and fortresses was sapping- tunneling under the walls, either to collapse them or to allow a small force to get within the walls and open the gates from within.

Did any of the major powers in WWI try something similar (tunneling under the enemy trenches to strike at the guns) after both sides were strongly entrenched?
