Hi all! I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find any posts about it in my search. Anyway, as the title suggests, I'm looking for a good book (or books) about the Battle of Stalingrad and the events leading up to it. If you have any suggestions, that would be wonderful! Thanks!
The one that I have that I like is Stalingrad : The Fateful Siege by Anthony Beevor. Most WWII histories also cover Stalingrad extensively, for obvious reasons.
Beevor is extremely readable and provides a great history of Stalingrad. The other end of the "good book" spectrum is "the Stalingrad Trilogy" by David M. Glantz.
Full disclosure: I've not read the trilogy cover to cover but I've read bits and pieces. I have read Glantz's works on the transformation of the Soviet Army and Kursk. They are incredibly in depth but exceptionally dry. Great if you want to study the battle but not great if you are looking for a summer read.
