So none that I've heard of. I think it had been known for a really really long time that it was a zoonotic disease. Stories about vampires and other zombie books have been thought by many historians to stem from the fear of rabies. Also during the long incubation period one is not contagious and as rabid animals are fairly obvious as far as conditions go people have known to kill the diseased animal and whatever it bit quickly to avoid outbreaks.
